Culture and collaboration
We promote a diverse and collaborative culture, and value our people.
Our values are vital to who we are and how we succeed. They are shared across the Victorian Public Sector and underpin how we work with our colleagues across government, our community, suppliers and each other.
Our values are:
- human rights.
Our organisational development strategy, DEDJTR Connects, helps us connect our work with a shared organisational purpose, connect with one another, connect with the knowledge and expertise that sits within our department, and connect with the diverse communities we serve. DEDJTR Connects creates a rewarding and satisfying working environment.
This strategy was designed collaboratively with the people who work at DEDJTR. DEDJTR's success is built on the contribution of employees, and everyone has the chance to influence our culture and suggest innovations.
Our commitment as an employer
As an employer we treat all job applicants, employees and contractors on the basis of individual merit, rather than on irrelevant personal characteristics such as age, disability/impairment, marital status, physical appearance, race, religion or gender.
We employ people from many different backgrounds and benefit from the diverse range of perspectives and skills they bring to our department.
The department deals with all employment matters in accordance with the Victorian Public Sector (VPS) Employment Principles. Our selection panels abide by these principles when making decisions regarding selection and appointment to vacant positions.
We offer several employment programs including graduate programs, internships, student work placements and traineeships, such as the:
- VPS Graduate Program, including the Aboriginal Pathway Program
- Science Graduate Program
- Aboriginal Cadetship Program
- Aboriginal Work Experience Program.
Other careers programs are:
Reward and recognition
We recognise the contributions and achievements of our people in many different ways. As well as providing yearly opportunities to advance in the organisation, we celebrate DEDJTR staff who have done that little bit extra through a program of annual awards.
