The legislation allows owner drivers and hirers to appoint a negotiating agent to negotiate contract conditions and rates on their behalf. The Transport Industry Council has developed model instruments for use.

Written contracts – owner drivers and hirers

The legislation provides that certain engagements must be in writing and must specify the minimum hours of work or income level that the contractor will receive. The Transport Industry Council has prepared a model contract for use by the industry.
