Victoria's Lead Scientist Amanda Caples coordinated the Women in Science Think Tank with Science Gallery Melbourne event at Government House Victoria for International Women's Day.
Hosted by Victorian Governor the Honourable Linda Dessau AC and facilitated by Rose Hiscock, Director of the Science Gallery Melbourne – the day asked the guests to look to their 100th birthday and identify their significant contributions to society.
Bridging generations and sharing a love of science and gender equality – the guests shared many visions of overcoming hunger, conserving the planet, advancing technology seeing more women succeed.
In her closing remarks, Dr Caples said she had already seen changes with more women now on government boards with the 50/50 pledge and believed anything was possible.
Many female leaders in science and technology attended the event, including mechanical engineer and ABC presenter Yassmin Abdel-Magied and representatives from veski, Girl Geek Academy and BioMelbourne Network.
The findings may be used by Science Gallery Melbourne as it works towards its 2020 opening.
