Cycling and walking

The Victorian Government supports cycling through a range of projects and initiatives in metropolitan and regional Victoria. These include improvements and extensions to bike paths, new trails, installing bike cages and hoops and supporting key events and awareness campaigns. The Victorian Government has established Active Transport Victoria to promote the benefits of walking and cycling in Victoria.

The Victorian Government's cycling strategy, Cycling into the Future 2013-23, aims to grow cycling participation in order to improve the well being of Victorians, provide better places to live, support a stronger economy and contribute to a healthier environment.

The Victorian Government is also committed to developing and promoting walking for transport.

Pedestrian access is integral to the functioning of a city and an important element of the transport system for the many short trips people make in central Melbourne.
