Avalon Airport Rail Link
The Victorian Government supports the future development of Avalon Airport as Victoria's second international airport.
A preferred alignment for the Avalon Airport Rail Link was identified by the Avalon Airport Rail Link Planning Study. Key findings of the planning study are available in the Avalon planning study findings brochure Avalon-Planning-study-findings-brochure.pdf (PDF 523.88 KB).
Amendment C308 to the Greater Geelong Planning Scheme was prepared to create a reservation for the rail link. The planning study and planning scheme amendment were on public exhibition from 19 September to 27 October 2014 and a panel hearing took place in December 2014.
The Minister for Planning approved the planning scheme amendment on 15 June 2015 to ensure a reservation is in place for the rail link. Reserving the corridor will protect the land from inappropriate development and ensure it is available for development of the rail link when required in the future.
