Multi Purpose Taxi Program

About the program

Established in 1983, the Multi Purpose Taxi Program supports people with limited mobility by offering subsidised taxi fares. The program pays half the cost of each taxi trip taken by program users, up to $60.

The program is run by the Taxi Services Commission on behalf of the Minister for Public Transport.

In 2013-14 the program had expenditure of $58 million, and supported more than 4.5 million trips. The Multi Purpose Taxi Program has more than 190,155 registered users, however only 93,228 people took a supported trip in 2013-14.
