Today marks the start of the 2017 Australian International Aerospace and Defence Exposition and Australian International Airshow - the largest event of its kind in the southern hemisphere.

The event will include dazzling displays from combat jets, bombers, and rotary winged warriors, as well as a comprehensive collection of World War II aircraft and on the ground military re-enactment groups.

The Victorian Government, a major sponsor of the Airshow since 2007, will have a considerable presence at the event as part of its continued push to promote Victoria's defence industry excellence and to facilitate networking and trade opportunities for Victorian aviation, aerospace and defence businesses.

The defence sector contributes over $8 billion to the state's economy and the industry consists of more than 300 companies that employ about 7,000 people

The Airshow is expected to attract up to 200,000 visitors, create more than 2,000 jobs and boost Victoria's economy by up to $150 million.

The Australian International Aerospace and Defence Exposition operates for three trade only days from Tuesday 28 February and then opens to the general public for the Australian International Airshow from 2.00pm on Friday 3 March.
